Nemes Galéria
The Nemes Gallery's selection creates a bridge between the works of defining figures in Hungarian contemporary and modern art, bringing together different generations and artistic approaches. It features fresh trends in contemporary painting, key figures of the Hungarian neo-avant-garde, and unique artistic positions that highlight the international connections and diversity of domestic art.
Donát Márk Csáky and László Milasovszky represent the present day of contemporary painting. Csáky's paintings focus on the relationship between landscape and time, its changes, and the potential for slow immersion. Meanwhile, in László Milasovszky’s art, geometric systems, recurring forms, and structures derived from scientific thinking build a distinct visual unity.
Alongside them, the works of László Méhes and Ludmil Siskov—as vital representatives of the Iparterv generation and the Hungarian neo-avant-garde—connect international art trends with the social experiences of their era from a uniquely Central European perspective.
Special emphasis is also placed on the work of László Iványi. Pieces from his oeuvre, which blossomed in France, were recently presented by the Hungarian National Gallery in a solo exhibition organized in cooperation with the Nemes Gallery. Similarly, the internationally recognized ceramic art of Ildikó Polgár holds a unique place, notable among other things for her role in helping ceramics gain acceptance as an independent medium of fine art.
Questions of light, space, and perception play a central role in the art of András Mengyán and Nándor Hérics. Their works treat the viewer's perception as an integral part of the piece itself, while various forms of light become independent artistic means of expression. The glass sculptures of László Lukácsi and Boldizsár Lukácsi, both known on the international scene, tie into this cross-medium approach, while the works of father and son create a sensitive dialogue between two generations.
The individual perspectives of Vera Freund, József Jakovits, Gábor Heritesz and Ferenc Nemes complete the collection. This year’s selection by the Nemes Gallery is an encounter of interconnected artistic positions, where prominent contemporary artists and major oeuvres managed by the gallery together outline a highly characterful picture.
