Kertész Csaba Magángyűjteménye
Fellow MUSICIAN! Csaba Kertész’s Photography Collection of the Finest Hungarian and World-Renowned Musicians
Motto: "Music begins where the power of words ends." – C. A. Debussy
In the 1950s and 1970s, legendary figures such as I. Stravinsky, Y. Menuhin, A. Rubinstein, S. Richter, D. Oistrakh, Pablo Casals, E. Ansermet, and other international luminaries gave concerts at the Academy of Music in Budapest. Edit Molnár was present at every event with her camera, visiting them in their hotel rooms, attending receptions, and capturing them during rehearsals to create outstanding photographs. A selection of these works is on display at the fair.
The exhibition is structured around six main groups:
-
A rich collection dedicated to Franz Liszt, featuring period photographs, engravings, and a contemporary "hommage" photo collage
-
The aforementioned photographs of international superstars
-
Conductors, featuring the finest Hungarian masters (Ferencsik, Doráti, etc.) alongside world greats who conducted in Hungary (Boulez, Ansermet, Munch, etc.)
-
Photographs of Zoltán Kodály, representing the richest material in the collection
-
Photographs of Béla Bartók and his wife, Ditta Pásztory—mostly portraits, along with a few candid moments from their private lives
-
Portraits of the most famous Hungarian musicians, arranged in a dedicated group (Annie Fischer, Ernő Dohnányi, György Kurtág, Zoltán Kocsis, Jenő Hubay, etc.)
Every photograph in the exhibition is an original, period print—a vintage photograph. The finest musicians were captured by the finest photographers, including Kata Kálmán, Marian Reismann, Károly Gink, Klára Langer, Dénes Rónai, József Pécsi, Edit Molnár, Éva Keleti, Antal Kotnyek, Tibor Csörgeő, and others.
