Primordial Mother

I am Ági Franta, and I founded my namesake brand 16 years ago.

I transitioned into object design from a background in interior design.

From the very beginning, my inner vision has been guided by dreams and visions. The cardboard lamp I designed from recycled materials, named Star Lamp (csillaglámpa), has been a centerpiece in the homes of families, restaurants, and headquarters for over 13 years.

Today, the star motif has expanded into a full product line featuring string lights, tiles, and rugs—all designed in-house, and in many cases, manufactured by me after mastering the necessary craftsmanship.

In 2020, wool became my core focus. I stack trace-element/conductive wool yarns using linen loops. The technique that came together resulted in a structure so stable that it holds its shape and stays rigid purely through my hands—without any stiffeners, molds, or external mountings. Here too, I first created lamps, followed by rugs without using a weaving frame.

At that point, an internal shift occurred from a world of straight lines (angles, stars) to soft curves (spheres, circles)—symbolizing containment, holding, and femininity.

Currently, I am working on kitchen and living room textiles.

My submission is titled "Primordial Mother" (Ősanya).

It is the result of my survival strategy.

My soul was deeply wounded, and since processing for me means crafting through work, I poured myself into the lamp with immense determination, expressing expansion. If my soul and my light are large enough, they can embrace even those who or that which hurt me. I cannot run from my own feelings; it hurts me, so I must face it. It took a month to complete, and during this lengthy process, I engaged in a profound dialogue with myself. By the end of this "birth," clarity and order returned to me, and the pain found its place—bathed in light. A total transformation.

Primordial Mother now sits at the center of my newly opened workshop and leaves an overwhelming impression on visitors, without exception.

Its form explores femininity and serves as a symbol of a spiritual journey: the soul's path along an ever-narrowing spiral toward the source (of light), and from top to bottom, the increasing impact our intellect—glowing with light—can exert on the world.

Today, I feel gratitude whenever I look at the lamp. Our pain prompts us to change and act; it is a signaling system for self-awareness, offering an extraordinary opportunity for understanding and renewal.

In my personal experience, the female life and soul are uniquely suited for this—guided by intuition, feeling, and the capacity to surrender to and embrace all things.

This is the story my lamp tells.
