am projects

On 1 February 2024 am projects, the second exhibition space of Ani Molnár Gallery with its own independent programme, opened. The newly created space with exciting interior design aimed primarily to provide a platform and market opportunities for outstanding yet relatively unknown young female artists during its first year. The exhibition programme focused on Hungarian artists, featuring Petra Inez Combarro, Dorottya Szonja Koltay, Veronika Csonka, Katalin Kortmann-Járay, Karina Mendreczky, Mónika Üveges, Abigail Wirth, Kinga-Noémi Ács, and Martha Kicsiny, with a total of six exhibitions exploring themes such as motherhood, the challenges of womanhood, rejecting stereotypical expectations towards women, as well as examining the ecosystem.

Looking to the future, am projects is committed to maintaining the high professional standard already established. After focusing on young female artists in its first year, this year we are preparing exciting and significant exhibitions, expanding the age range of the programme: in April, Emese Benczúr presented a solo exhibition specifically designed for the am projects space; currently, a site-specific installation by renowned Japanese artist Yuko Shiraishi is on view; and in October we will host a memorial exhibition dedicated to Roman Uranjek, who passed away in 2022.

The works selected for this year’s Budapest Contemporary provide an insight into the use of innovative techniques such as resin and 3D-printable plastics in artistic practice, while more traditional media – including ceramics, porcelain and textiles – are reinterpreted with a contemporary sensibility. The artists engage with pressing questions, among them the archetypes of the modern woman and mother, as well as the global environmental crisis and climate change.
