K.A.S. Galéria
K.A.S. Gallery, founded by Ilona Nyakas in 1991, was one of the first contemporary exhibition venues in Budapest after the fall of communism. From the outset, it has played a decisive role in shaping the Hungarian art scene. It supports talented artists at the beginning of their careers and focuses on established artists. As a generational institution, it has been led by Kinga Saás since 2020, who has introduced a new context of applied arts and contemporary Hungarian design into the program, thus enriching the gallery's open and innovative profile.
The current selection at the K.A.S. Gallery is organized around colors and abstraction. The works of the exhibiting artists reveal different strategies of colorist painting: color as a carrier of emotional intensity, as the elemental expressive power of gestural painting, or as a consciously composed, strictly edited system. The lyrical delicacy of feminine sensitivity, intense expressiveness, and color choreography constructed with mathematical precision complement each other, revealing the diversity of abstraction and the timeless spiritual potential inherent in colors.
Ákos Bánki has made a name for himself with his expressive abstract gestural painting. His works explore the flow of physical and mental spaces and the relationship between spontaneous gesture and consciousness. In 2024, he was awarded the Mihály Munkácsy Prize. István Losonczy's painting is characterized by a scientific approach to colors and materials. In his painting research, he lines up the entire spectrum of colors visible to the naked eye, which are articulated as a unique, intense spatial experience. In Dóra Juhász's lyrical abstract works, recurring egg-shaped, seed-like motifs are loosely woven into the softly vibrating background, which is both mysterious and harmoniously organized. Her paintings are characterized by sensitive use of color, organic rhythm, and internal order. Tamás Kis's sculptures are defined by geometric abstraction. His sculptures, based on the elementary shapes of circles, triangles, and squares, are visual representations of the structure of the universe. His works, formed from aluminum, bronze, and steel, preserve both the physical weight of the material and the spiritual expansiveness of the idea.
