Rechnitzer Gallery
Rechnitzer Gallery represents and showcases a new generation of contemporary artists. The gallery was founded in 2024 by Zsófia Rechnitzer, a professional with experience in both the non-profit and commercial art worlds.
This year, at Budapest Contemporary, Rechnitzer Gallery returns with one long-represented and one new artist: Vanda HUMINILOWICZ and Ádám ULBERT.
The painting practices of Vanda HUMINILOWICZ and Ádám ULBERT are connected by a multitude of attitudes tied to the medium. Neither artist is interested in mere depiction or representation: their works are embodiments and acts of becoming. Balancing on the edge between abstraction and figuration, their hybrid creations draw strength from a space of indeterminacy. Their visionary canvases—rendered in vivid or at times more subdued hues—evoke various metamorphoses and transformations, strongly influenced by premodern and early 20th-century ecological theories.
The presence of the otherworldly, the more-than-human, the beyond-human, and the “Other” plays a significant role in both oeuvres. However, while in ULBERT’s work this manifests as an ecological inquiry, in HUMINILOWICZ’s it aligns with a broader spiritual system.
The power of these paintings lies in their richness and potent symbolism: they may require us to linger before them for a while before revealing entry points, but once they do, the works draw us into their unique realms—where salamanders, amphorae, and otherworldly beings await our acquaintance.
